Ambitiousness and getting stuck

Sometimes a very talented executive wants to advance in an organization but a promotion is not happening.  Other times, organizations see potential in a key employee, but that person is just “not ready” to be promoted.  Frustration can occur.  Organizations can lose great talent.   Careers can get sidetracked.

Often, the part of the problem is that the employee is not fully aware of how he or she is perceived.  Typically, there is something that’s getting in the way.  Is the person’s manager or someone else in the organization able to clearly communicate what it is?  Can the manager give appropriate feedback so the executive hearing it can make the necessary course correction?

Skillful coaching – perhaps to both giver and receiver of the feedback – can help to resolve the issue more smoothly, while simultaneously developing the skills of giving and receiving feedback.
